Harry Robert Stevens (1914- ) received his PhD in history from the University of Chicago in 1946. During his career he was an assistant, associate and full professor of United States history at the University of Cincinnati, Michigan State University, and Duke University, respectively. In 1976, he became an emeritus professor at Ohio University. His specialty is nineteenth century political, intellectual and frontier America.
